I was born in Tehran, Iran to my father Mohsen Kalhor and Tuba G. Shenas. I started my interest in Movie-making when I was very young, I guess because my father was a movie/music producer. I was always around all the the top stars of music, TV and film. It was normal for me to hang out with my father at one of the studios while he was mixing or producing a record for a famous singing star. I was also a regular extra in a childrens television show that my father produced. It was a childrens variety show and I got to be in the studio audience. My father was a producer and very good friends to one of Irans top divas of the 70's and 80's , Googosh. Googoosh is now making a very successful comback in the past few years here in the US and Canada. I guess I never really wanted to be an actress or preformer, I was always fascinated by the technical side. Something about the behind the scenes production seem a far greater thrill than smiling for the camera.
In Iran it was not easy for my to get the training or experience. As many of you may now be familiar with, Iran being a very strict Islamic country, Women have no rights and have very little job opportunities. Again, I was lucky because my father had the connections to make it a little easier for me to get training and experience. I was able to take some photography classes after high school, and I later attended Tehran Film Technical School to learn about movie production. My graduation project was a short film called "WAITING".
In 1997 I was given the opportunity to come to the US as a film student. I would stay with my aunt in Orange County, whom had been here in the US since the early 1980's. Since I didnt have much of a budget and school for visiting students is very expensive, I had to start at Santa Ana College, TV production as my major(aka SACTV).
During my attendance at Santa Ana College, I did make many contacts in "Hollywood". I may not yet be "big time" , but I have been working on projects that have made me proud to be a part of and have given me valuable experience.
I hope to one day be part of a major filmakers preference as an on set Script Supervisor or Continuity Supervisor. I have always enjoyed finding continuity flubs in films. I have developed quite a knack for finding the flaws in some of those big Hollywood Blockbusters, but even more, I really enjoy making continuity flow my resposibility when I'm on the set. On the projects that I have already worked on, the film directors have come to trust my eye in keeping the set and shots free from any costume, prop, backround or lighting continuity defects.
Since I have been in film, I have met several people that have helped me and included me in their film making and other projects.
A BIG Thanks to some of the people that have allowed me to learn the tricks of the trades:
Marcial Rios, MX Productions/Piqueno Gigante films: Director,
Writer, Cinematographer.
Eddie Ruiz, Cinemtographer/Writer
Paula Moreno of LYD Productions, Producer/Director
Isabel Reyes, Producer/Director
Roger Derryberry, of "The Project Studio", (Master Gaffer,
Electrician, Set Construction, Music Videos, Cable TV
Commercials, Feature Films).
Benjamin Encineas of FB Companies,(Gaffer, Set Construction,
Special effects, Music Videos, Motorsports Videos).
I continue to attend workshops and classes that will further my
education, but nothing is better than being on the set!
